Choosing a supper club to dine at in Wisconsin is no easy task. At last count, there were over 300 open and operating across the state. The best supper clubs don’t all boast fancy decor or white tablecloths (although some do), but rather the attraction is cozy, dark rooms with expansive bars and a menu that has stood the test of time. Most are family owned and operated, with multiple generations working together to bring a unique experience to their customers.
When you walk into Chop’s Kall Inn Supper Club, there’s no host stand or employee waiting by the door to direct you to a table. Rather, you head to the end of the bar where Chop himself sits, and let him know you’re there. Like many other Supper Clubs, you can sit at the bar and have a drink while you wait. The servers will take your order before they even seat you, so that you can continue socializing until your food is served.
If you’re new to Supper Clubs, this process can be confusing; but once explained, it makes perfect sense. And while we needed a menu, most of the people around us simply ordered from memory. Of course, the menu at Chop’s Kall Inn hasn’t changed much over the years and that’s how their diners like it. Fish fry Fridays and prime rib Saturdays are joined by local favorites like jumbo fried shrimp, broasted chicken, and a ham steak that’s almost larger than the dinner plate it is served on.
